QR = same room, no internet. Link / GIF = send across the world by chat or email — the data rides inside the link or GIF, never uploaded to a server, and is always password‑locked first. How to transfer a file anonymously, in 3 steps

Is AirGap QR really anonymous?
Yes. There is no account, no sign-up and no server involved. Encoding, scanning and decoding all happen in your browser, and your file travels directly between the two devices as QR codes, so nothing is uploaded or logged.
How do I transfer a file anonymously?
Open Send, choose a file or paste text, and press Generate. Your device shows an animated QR stream. On the other device open Receive and point its camera at the screen. No apps, no upload, no trace.
How do I receive a file anonymously?
Open Receive and scan the animated QR on the sending screen. The file is rebuilt on your device and offered as a normal download. Nothing ever passes through a server.
Can I transfer files without an internet connection?
Yes. The transfer uses your screen and the other device’s camera, so both devices can be fully offline or in airplane mode. You only need internet once to load the app, after which it works offline.
Is anonymous file transfer with AirGap QR secure?
You can add an AES-256 password so only someone with the password can open the file. Because nothing is uploaded, there is no cloud copy to leak, and a checksum flags any corruption.
How big a file can I transfer?
QR is low-bandwidth, so text, keys and small files are instant. For big files, Save as GIF handles up to 2 GB, Direct P2P beams them device-to-device, and the QR stream scales to gigabytes in XL mode.
Why does the camera need “https” or “localhost”?
Browsers only allow camera access on secure pages. Once the app is loaded once (from https or localhost), it’s cached and runs fully offline. The transfer itself never uses the network.
